Building Respectful and Inclusive Organizations: Combating Mistreatment at Work 

This three-part series featuring Dr. Michelle Kaminski and Dr. Tina Riley from Michigan State University explores how to recognize, respond to and prevent workplace mistreatment. Topics include addressing incivility and microaggressions, responding as a witness to mistreatment and conducting respectful and effective workplace investigations. This series offers practical tools for individuals and leaders committed to creating more inclusive and supportive work environments.

Episode 3 of 3: Conducting Respectful and Effective Workplace Investigations

In the final session of the series, Dr. Riley will focus on the way workplace investigations are conducted sends a powerful message about an organization’s values. This is especially critical in cases involving bullying, harassment or other trauma-related incidents, where mishandling can cause lasting harm. Dr. Riley will walk through the essential steps of a respectful and effective workplace investigation. 


Episode 2 of 3: Witnessing Workplace Mistreatment

In the second session, Dr. Kaminski will discuss what you can do if you are a witness to someone else being mistreated in the workplace and what you should do. She will talk through issues and concerns people have when they witness something and aren’t sure whether or not to respond and how to respond.

Episode 1 of 3 : Incivility and Microaggressions
In the first session of the series, Dr. Michelle Kaminski introduced how incivility and microaggressions are recognized as forms of mistreatment that are less severe than bullying or physical violence. They are also more common, and when people experience them on a regular basis, they have a cumulative harmful impact. She talked about things that individuals can do in response and things that leaders can do to prevent them from happening in the future.
