Building MI Communities Conference (BMCC) is open!

The BMCC is Michigan’s premiere housing conference taking place in-person for the first time in four years on May 9 and 10, 2023, at the Lansing Center.  Our exciting theme “Transform: Be the Spark” features prominent political activist, scholar, and author, Dr. Angela Davis!  Also joining us is Brookings expert in urban economics and housing policy, Dr. Jenny Schuetz, author of Fixer Upper: How to Repair America’s Broken Housing Systems and Michigander enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Angeline Boulley, author of #1 NYT bestseller, Firekeeper’s Daughter.  Ms. Boulley’s new book, Warrior Girl Unearthed goes on sale May 2nd!  We also plan a special high-energy show-within-a-conference idea competition, Steal My Idea, emceed by Detroit stand-up comedian and motivational speaker, Horace H.B. Sanders!

Housing is a right and everyone deserves safe, quality, affordable housing, a cornerstone of thriving communities!  The foundation for the BMCC is Michigan’s first Statewide Housing Plan and in addressing the longstanding housing inequities that have been amplified by the global pandemic.  The intersections to housing are vast so our target audience is broad – from community advocates to officials, environmental justice advocates to businesses, those who serve vulnerable and special populations, developers, construction industry, architects, preservationists, and those across the housing continuum.
