2022 Lunar New Year Music Celebration presented by MSU Artist

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with MSU artists! This tradition, dating back thousands of years, is a time to bring people together for family reunions, food, and of course, plenty of music.

This year, the Lunar New Year falls on February 1, and an esteemed group of MSU musicians and faculty members decided to use this opportunity to honor composers of Asian descent by featuring their music in a special concert.

Violinists Yvonne Lam and I-Fu Wang, clarinetist Mingzhe Wang, percussionist Gwen Dease, harpist Chen-Yu Huang, and pianists Zhihua Tang and Young Hyun Cho will perform works by composers Keiko Abe, Paul Chihara, and Chia-Yu Hsu. They have also chosen to perform works by MSU associate professor of composition Zhou Tian and College of Music alumnus Han-Ki Kim, bringing even more Spartan spirit into this MSU celebration of the Lunar New Year.

For interested viewers who are unable to make it to the venue, you can watch the live event on the College of Music’s Livestream channel.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required of all attendees ages 12 and up.

To help maintain a safe concert-going experience, we are following University directives for COVID-19, including the Jan. 1 announcement requiring vaccination or proof of a negative test to attend MSU events. Your health and that of our performers are a top priority. Details for this new policy can be found under MSU Music COVID-19 directives, including answers to the commonly asked questions on the FAQ webpage.
